You know, despite the fact that it's not much to look at and that it takes a good long while to get your food (the mark of a good restaurant is that the food is freshly prepared!), I have to give this place five stars. The food was delicious (I got the BLT). My husband got the Mustard's Special and declared it fantastic. The fries were great. And the whole feel of the restaurant was wonderful for our family of five. We had staff members coming out to make sure our table was cleared so that we had lots of room for the kids, and they took the time to make sure our oldest, who is autistic, was comfortable. No one batted an eye at our three young kids when they started to melt down. It was seriously a great overall experience for us.

Always good, always warm and some phat burgers. Everything is good there and they have a great selection. Definitely the best burger at the beach!

Good food. Good price. Good service. Fries were a little plain but the burgers were amazing.

So with visiting for the 4th everyone likes to try the local spots! My GF and I met up with a few people we knew around here and honestly...BIG FAN! Love the portions, great tasting food, and everything we had was brought out promptly. She was getting crushed by a rush and even forgot to tell us there wasn't a side with our order and I asked for one it was brought out in 2 minutes and told not to worry about paying. All the orders we got were good...I guess if I were to have a con on this place is the wings are a little bland on creativeness. Just naked wings tossed in regular buffalo. Nothing wrong with them just nothing crazy. Conclusion! Great hangover place haha!

Disappointment is the only feeling a had after tasting the food here. Stopped here on my way to the beach, ordered the Bowden burger with onion rings. Well the actual burger was tasteless (no seasoning at all) despite the attempt to add some flavor with the cheese, bacon, and sautéed onions it failed miserably. I don't know what the heck was going on in the kitchen but it's bad when I have to add more than enough of ketchup to enhance a burger that had such great toppings on it. The onion rings were hot but greasy and soggy. I won't even get started on the two weird acting older women at the counter, looking at me as if to say "why are you here". Im pretty sure that was a sign of things to come but I ignored it! Fool me once! So one star for the toppings.... Ughhh what a MESS!!!!

Col. Mustards has restored my faith in mankind. I almost gave up on my quest to find a good, tasty and satisfying burger with reasonable value for the money. I was pretty excited when I discovered Col Mustards and they did not disappoint. I ordered the Bowden burger and it was pretty good. It consists of Bacon, cheddar cheese, grilled onions, huge patty and a soft bun. The flavors were good, subtle and worked well together the sweetness of the onions with the crunchyness of the bacon sandwiched by a perfect bun. The first bite I took I knew they got it right. My taste buds must've been doing a Mexican wave or something. Something so simple tasted so good. So many burger joints try too hard and overthink and under-execute the burger but Col. Mustards kept it simple and fresh and made a fine burger. I don't need truffles and gold dust on my burgers org caviar encrusted fries. I just want a simple and tasty burger: fresh patty, a good bun and uhm bacon. Next time I'll swap the cheddar for American but I'll definitely be back, in fact I look forward to going back.

Man, some freaky people running the place, but WOW, what a great burger. Top grade on the food. Not much on atmosphere however, but I will certainly be back for more burgers when I am in town.

Random hole in the wall. Ordered a small chili cheese fry and a House Burger. This gigantic order of cheese fries comes out. "This is the small?" LOL The fries themselves were good, the seasoning was good. However the cheap cheese sauce and tomatoey chili left more to be desired, but kudos on presentation. The burger was a good old fashioned Mom & Pop kind of burger. Real meat fresh veggies. Flavor was great, seasoned meat like I would make at home.

Little mom and pop shop that we accidentally found because we were sitting in their parking lot trying to figure out where to go for breakfast! I looked up and realized the place we were sitting in front of served breakfast. We walked in and my eyes were immediately drawn to the wall of fame. A local burger challenge they offer, which one day I will attempt. Orders are taken at the front counter, where several menus are located. Everything on the menu is fairly cheap and won't hurt the wallet. I ordered the phat stacks with sausage and my significant other ordered the bacon breakfast sandwich on wheat. The pancakes came out fairly big and the waitress informed me that I would be getting a fourth pancake because they were actually small. YIKES! Pancakes were fluffy and weren't doughy. Sausage patties weren't pre made patties, which I liked. The wife's breakfast sandwich was loaded with eggs, bacon and cheese it had a real homemade taste to it. Great little places for breakfast with friendly staff. I always seem to find great places when I am on this side of town. I can't wait to come back and try some of their burgers.

I've lived 2 minutes from Col Mustard's for a while now, but yesterday was actually my first time here. It's not much to look at from the outside. The storefront has a neon open sign and a flashing "hot coffee" sign that you'd expect to see outside of a Kangaroo gas station - the glass door proudly displays posters and flyers for local events and shows. You'll walk in to a smattering of 4 tops with cheap chairs, tan square tiled flooring that remind me of elementary school, and a few locals looking up at the two TVs on the walls. The right wall is occupied by a large whiteboard that people have drawn all over, and the left is plastered in pictures of brave customers who have attempted to competitively eat 1.5-3lbs burgers in 15 minutes or less. The counter is in the back near the kitchen. It's a true hole in the wall. I thumbed through the menu, and the Jaguar caught my eye. It's half a pound of beef with bacon, ham, grilled onions, 1000 Island dressing, and swiss cheese on a kaiser roll. I got this with a side of fries to go. I ordered it cooked medium. In less than ten minutes I was out the door, burger in hand. I made it to the car, but the smell was too good and my willpower was weak. Against my better judgment, I hoisted this monstrosity of a burger to my face and took a huge bite. The dopamine release from biting into this flavor bomb nearly caused me to swerve off the road. Had I been standing I would have gone weak in the knees. I'm not saying that this is the best burger I've had in Jax, but it's definitely the best $6.75 I've spent in a long time. The burgers are enormous, and would sate the appetite of even the hungriest of sumo wrestlers. The shop is local, and it feels nostalgic even to the newcomer. I feel good about buying burgers here.

This has been my best friend since I've been on vacation. I love the breakfast menu. Service is always fast and they deliver. You can't beat that. My kids loved the phat cakes (pancakes) and they are huge. The size of a Togo container. There blts are great too.

Col. Mustards is one of those strip mall hidden in plain site places I probably wouldn't have discovered if a friend who is a regular hadn't taken me there. It's my kind of place, friendly service, zero pretense, good prices, excellent food, and if you eat three giant burgers in 15 mins or less you get your name and picture on the wall. Sadly, I didn't attempt the chance at fame but I did finish my one burger. They have a large menu so it was hard to choose but I finally settled on the chili burger. This was massive with a half pound freshly made seasoned patty, fresh tasty chili, fried onions, shredded cheese, and bacon on a tasty roll. This was so large I had to eat it with a knife and fork. I had a side of fresh Old Bay seasoned fries and freshly made real iced tea. You get your own drinks so can make them how you want and no waiting for refills. DC has lots of burger places which charge double the price and don't deliver a burger as good as Col. Mustards. I told them I'll be back when I visit again and they need to open a Washington, DC location ASAP.

Some of the best burgers around. Made to order. Nothing is pre-made in this place! If you are looking for fast food go someplace else but if you are the type who thinks your burger should be as great as the steak you ate. Look no further.

Had them delivered first time. Delicious. Went to the restaurant and as we were standing in line to order, heard slap- slap- slap. Looked up to see the cook slapping hamburger meat into patties. NO GLOVES!! GROSS... Disgusting. Never again!

I'm feeling rather trite with another 5 star review, but I can't back off this. Great burgers, even better cheese steak. When they told me to only order a large fry and a large onion ring for 4, I didn't believe them. We got two fries since i was worried the 'Cajun' fries would be too spicy for the kids. Not spicy, but yummy. Way too many fries. Onion rings are really good. Totally trying breakfast here!

Being knew to the area I look to yelp for good places to eat. Wanting a good burger I found phat burger. Let's just say I wasn't disappointed. The staff was super friendly and they had a very good menu with lots of choices beyond burgers. I got the mushroom swiss.. everything was fresh and very good.. wasn't the best burger I have ever had but it was very good then add the low cost and your have 5 stars.. will definitely be back to try more of the menu

Great burgers!!! Burgers are 80/20 chuck and all in half-pound sizes. Had the Jimbo, which comes with BBQ sauce, bacon & cheddar. Great fries as well; hand-cut with seasoned salt.

I don't know who Colonel Mustard is but I'm telling you, he knows what he's doing! This no frills establishment boasts a large menu complete with a long list of burgers with various toppings ($5.95), bison burgers, wings, quesadillas, shakes and even breakfast. The dry erase board had banana and banana walnut pancakes as the special for the day. Throughout my culinary adventures, I've found that some places that have too much variety on the menu fail to impress with any of the items. Col Mustard's does not! Sticking with the namesake, they make thick, juicy and absolutely delicious burgers. This place doesn't skimp on anything! A huge burger is served with a basket full of fries. The blackened seasoning was great on them. I ate half of the burger and half of the fries and I was stuffed! I had to dock one star because the bottom bun was soggy but the abundance of bacon, grilled onions and well-cooked meat, made me think twice about not giving this place five stars. Although I hadn't intended to try this place, my growling stomach made me stop and I'm really glad that I did. The food was great and the service was lovely. This is definitely one of the best burgers around here.

The management there is a sick joke. I've had a cashier tell me it's only her 3rd day and she's the only left in the store during a rush! Fries are always stale and soggy and the burger always comes with an extra side of grease on too.

I have been wanting to try Col Mustard's Phabulous Phat Burgers for a while, so I was super excited when it came up on Groupon! The hubby and I went down there one afternoon for lunch. I am a big fan of egg burgers, so I was very happy to see that they had one on the menu. I didn't think about it at the time, but I wish they would have asked me how I wanted the burger cooked. It came out well done and was very dry. I think it would have been a lot better if it was cooked medium, but it was still a good burger. My husband got the Nacho (bacon, fried onions, and cheddar cheese sauce on a kaiser roll). He really liked it and said that the ingredients really complimented each other. We also got an order of fries to share. I really liked that they had seasoning on them. Very good! I did get jealous because Ivan had some left over cheese from his burger, so he was having cheese fries and didn't offer anyone else any :( Verdict: Liked it. I think it was a good value and I would like to go back and try a burger "medium" to see how it is. The restaurant has a very laid back feel and I bet it's the place to be on nights and weekends!

Just went here last night with my best friend who lives in Jacksonville. I would say the burger was just okay, but a food filling size. The do make everything from scratch which helps! The buns could use some help as well.

We decided to go there for the very first time last night and OMG these are the BEST BURGERS!!! I don't like Cruisers cause they are super greasy and this place they are amazing! Fresh toppings, the onion rings are the best I have ever had anywhere. We will be going back on a regular basis!!!! I could eat a burger from here every day!!!

It has been awhile since I have eaten at Col. Mustards Phat Burgers. This was not a good idea cause they are so good. Hand made and cooked to order so it's takes a few minutes. If you want it NOW and super quick there's the arches and the king guy down the road. If you want a hot, juicy (not wendy either) and different burger. This is the place. Now the Colonel is not really on my diet but sometimes you have to just wing it and I'll eat a salad for a day or two. The burgers are that good and worth the extra sacrifice I'll make. I did see a salad some young lady got. It was huge and she said she just came from the gym too. I was gonna take a picture but the guy with her was huge too.

There are a lot of options for burgers at the beach. Col mustard's remains at the top of the heap. Great burgers with all the fixings. Made fresh. Served up fast. This is more than food you eat, it's food you crave. Try it once and you'll be back. My favorite is the nacho burger.

I went to Colonel Mustard's last week for the first time and I liked it so much I went back the next day! A real "mom and pop" type of joint, Mustard's hand smashes their burger meat with yummy seasoning to give that ground beef the extra oomph! The menu is HUGE with salads, sandwiches, wings and all sorts of things BUT you are ultimately there to get a burger with like, 8 of your favorite toppings! It definitely takes some time for your food to come out, close to 10 minutes, but when you get that meaty goodness put right in front your face, you pick it up with both hands and you don't put it down until you're done (see photo)! Luckily, I had my boyfriend with me who wiped my face for me.. which seems cute, but I'm sure he was totally embarrassed for me with my messy face! *TIP: don't ask for mustard, ketchup, or hot sauce to be added to your burger because they will charge a few cents extra for it. They have all those condiments on a side table right behind you, after you pay and you turn around to sit down. However, you will have to ask for mayo. Salute the Colonel!

Incredibly juicy burgers, delicious onion rings, chicken fingers fat and full of juicy white meat. Store appearance doesn't do the place justice. However it is clean and inviting to eat at. If your near the beach in Jacksonville craving a burger this is a good option for tourists and locals alike!

REVIEW FOR SOUTHSIDE LOCATION - NOT YET ON YELP. I have been counting down the days until this place opened (corner of Philips and Baymeadows). I've heard they are delicious and couldn't wait. What a disappointment right from the start... Never mind the lack of clean tables and the shabby sign stating the establishment is currently closed on weekends. Never mind the smell of turpentine or paint. It's a new place and I'm really forgiving. The line as backed up, so a young lady took my order. I could tell she was overwhelmed because she was slightly abrupt and struggled with writing my order. Due to the lack of vegetarian options (it's a burger place, for crying out loud), I asked for a cheesesteak without the meat (I love amoroso rolls, cheese and veggies..) No where, I repeat, no where, has ever had difficulty with my orders because A) I never ask for a discount due to not having meat, and B) my lack of meat means they save supplies and money (I have friends in the biz, I know this to be true). I get up to order. The lady plugging in my order read back my order, and ignored the no meat thing... So I asked her to hold the meat. She literally made scoffed, copped an attitude, and reacted so unprofessionally that the person behind me made a comment regarding her response. Never mind that I saw her joking with her coworkers about the meal (and yes, I could hear her, so I am not inferring). As someone who tends to avoid meat, I tend to get some ridicule, but it was disappointing to have it blatantly shown in a restaurant by staff... Now here's the kicker. I waited over 45 minute for my sandwich. My friend received her wrap after 25 minutes, I had my fries after 30. Everyone else who came after us came and left. But, the meal of bread, cheese, onions, and green peppers was still cooking? Finally, they handed this gentleman a sandwich and after a number of minutes he flipped out and created a scene about the kitchen being awful and making the server girl (the original one, see above), cry in the bathroom because they kept messing up his order. He pushed the sandwich onto the table and demanded his money back. Well, no dinner but at least a show. THEN, they picked up his sandwich, which had been sitting there over 5 minutes on his table and then the counter and said, "oh that's the meatless sandwich!" They proceeded to give it to me. I have never, ever in my entire life asked for my money back. I refused the sandwich (it was up to 55 minutes by now) and requested my money back. The fries were good. My friend said her wrap was good. But, I can honestly say I will never return.

I've been driving to the Jacksonville Beach location approximately 2-3 times a month for over a year. I live in Orange Park. The burgers are that good. I usually order a Mustard's Special (classic burger with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions with ketchup, mayo, & mustard) cooked a little above medium seasoned well and juicy with extra toasty buns or sans buns. I usually get a three banger. The fries are always crispy and hot. The breakfast menu items are priced right and the portions are huge; moreover, they're delicious. The chili cheese fries are simple, sinful, and plentiful. The atmosphere is very laid back and the staff is always accommodating and friendly to all. If you're looking for a great burger without the usual fast food motif, then this place is definitely worth your $ and time. I will drive for great food and considering the amount of miles I drive throughout the month just to come and eat there is proof of how great their hamburgers are.

The décor is cheaply done and looks like children has scrawled on the walls. It appears it is a hang out for the local teenagers as there were a group of about 8 that were there I'm sure way before my friend and I arrived. They were loud and running from their table to the drink station spilling soda on their way back. The restaurant was also uncomfortable warm. My friend had a burger which he said was "ok" "not bad" I had a vegetable wrap that was mostly wrap and runny mayo. The vegetables were sparse and consisted of cheap wilted iceberg lettuce a few small cut up tomatoes, green pepper, and mushroom. The only thing that saved my meal was the corn nuggets and tea I had. Very disappointing meal.

Serve breakfast all day and they deliver. Awesome! I've been ordering from them for years, the food is great, and the staff is super friendly. They would get five stars but one day I called ahead and rather than wait for delivery I just told them I would pick it up and the actual restaurant itself feels like a flea market. You guys are great, but I'm sticking with delivery!

Love their burgers and sandwiches, but they should definitely consider toasting the buns. Just for a little bit on the grill. It's not satisfying eating a great burger but having a soggy, soft bun to accompany it.

This place has uber-potential to satisfy my quest for the five star burger. There's not much to be said for the decor, but you can write on the wall if you want. Well, sort of. It's like most places in Jax Beach: beachy casual. The hubz & I stopped in last night to grab a bite because we were both craving a burger. We stepped up to the bar & placed our order. For him the Commodore. For me the Bowden. It was very hard for me to consider ordering that burger since I bleed orange & blue, but I'm not one to resist cheese, grilled onions, AND bacon. We ordered some onion rings to share & found a seat while we waited for our food. Our onion rings came out first: fresh & hot. Unlike all the entrees, these weren't made on site, but they're pretty darn good. Finally the burgers arrived. Typically I wouldn't be excited about a place that uses paper plates & plasticware, but if it keeps the food cheap, I'ml all for it. The burgers are most certainly phat in every sense of the word. The char on the outside was perfect. The thickness of the burger allowed it retain some juice & be really moist. The bacon was perfectly crisp & with the right hit of sweetness in the onion. My only two (very small) complaints would be about the bun & the cheese. The bun was perfectly soft, but if the bottom half of the bun could have been a little bit stronger to stand up to the burger, it would have been just right. But I really can't blame the restaurant for that one. The cheddar was good, but it was shredded. Because of this the cheese (and some of the onions) would fall out as I bit into the burger. A slice of cheddar would have melted better & held it all together. Good news is I found out they can do sliced cheese & they'll pretty much customize your order any way you want it. You know we'll be back to try it again. Plus, they're open for breakfast & they serve everything all day. So if you want a burger at 8 AM or an omelet at 8 PM, go for it. The choice is yours.

Staying in the Fairfield Inn and jonesing for a burger, I found this place using Yelp and it was just a couple of blocks away. Easily within walking distance although I crossed a busy street with no walkways. Mustard's is in a strip center. The ambiance was utilitarian. It was not a normal meal time, so only a few customers sat at the tables. I visited with someone who I presumed was the proprietor. She was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the egg burger. The meat was fresh and the veggies tasted homegrown. We had a lengthy discussion about the cost of tomatoes. The burger compared favorably with the best hamburger joints I've tried, including In n' Out and Five Guys. The coffee was excellent. I would go back, though I will probably never have the occasion to do so because I live in San Antonio, TX.

The place looks like a dump, but these are the best burgers in Jax! The Colonel is a great guy, but if you cross him you may have to drop and give him 20! Also open for breakfast with breakfast burritos and other tasty items are available, not just burgers. Prob not a good place for calorie counters.

Even though we're locals, my wife and I were staying in a nearby hotel after a date night. I wanted to surprise her with breakfast in bed so I googled local delivery spots and found Col Mustards. I ordered through email the week before and it was delivered right on time. The food was delicious (especially the french toast and giant pancakes) and the owner even contacted me later in the day just to make sure it was satisfactory. You don't get that kind of attention anywhere else. A+++

Dare I say best burger at the Beach????? Yeah I am gonna say it!! While the place leaves a bit to be desired for decor the burgers are awesome and with sooooo many options for them. The fries and onion rings while good are not as high in quality as the burgers. There are plenty of other options on the menu, including breakfast, so definitley a must stop the next time you are at the beach.

Super friendly counter person who made us feel like old friends despite it being our first time. Explained several things on the menu and was SO patient and friendly. Food worth the brief wait, great burgers, hot out of the oil fries and decent to pretty good rings. Fun little hole in the wall, and will be back for SURE. We're not from Jax so it's a ways out of the way but if we're in the area which we are frequently, worth the drive over.
